Passing a variable through frames...

Hello all
I would like to thank anyone and everyone in advance for any help that might be provided through this.

I have a frames page.
One frame is 100%, and the other 0.
when you go to this frame page and add a variable in the header (frames.html?nick=plopper), the first page that loads in the 100% frame can read it and output it.
However, if you click through some links in the 100% frame, and come back to another page that calls that same variable, it does not read it.

Any ideas on this?

Its a complicated story on why i need this, so I won't bore you all, I just want it to be able to work...

Is there any way to call the variable from the header of the frames page into one of the frames?

I'm not exactly sure what your having problems with..

Case 1: If you already know the $nick and pass it to frames.html then do the following:

<frameset rows="*,0">
<frame id="header" src="header.php?nick=<?php echo "$nick"; ?>
<frame id="footer" src="footer.php?nick=<?php echo "$nick"; ?>
</frameset>

Case 2: If You don't know the $nick when loading frames.html and can't give it to footer.htm. The user signs on though the "header" and gets a $nick.
Use scripting to trigger a reload of the footer part of the document passing $nick.

<script for="window" event="onload" language="vbscript">
Top.footer.Navigate("footer.php?nick=<? echo "$nick"; ?>")
</script>

(better to use jscript.. couldn't remember syntax off of top.head)

That is all and good, but how can I pull the value of $nick from footer.php into header.php?

when they come to this script, the nick will be passed - always.
What I need to be able to do is pull $nick from footer.php back to header.php after it loses it (header.php will go through another site where the $nick cannot be passed along, but it will always hit an end point and need $nick back...)

Try the PHP manual for setCookie(). Once the user is logged in.. send them a cookie that you can refrence at any time.

Limitations to this i suppose is the browser not supporting cookies.

If you want a more complex solution without cookies then you need to look at exposing an object with a value in one of the frames that the other can refrence.

Footer Example:

<Input type="hidden" ID="myvalue" Value="<?php echo "$username"; ?>

Header Example:

if (!isset($username)) {

   <script for=window" event="onload" language="vbscript">

            Dim uid
            uid = Top.Footer.myvalue.value
            'refresh this frame with the user info from the footer
            Top.Header.Navigate("header.html?userid=" & uid);

    </script>
