getting the current url

is there a way to get the url of the web page that the user is currently at?

like if i am at http://www.mypage.com/news.php

i want to be able to put that in a var.

i am using an upload script to upload html pages into folders, but i want all of the images to be relative to the root and not the current dir.

MoMad, if you wanted to get an image that is, say, http://www.mypage.com/images/mypic.jpg, just use <img src="/images/mypic.jpg"> -- the leading slash is means root. Make sense?

$PHP_SELF contains the path from document root to the current page, $REQUEST_URI contains the exact url the user entered in his browser
you can also use $SERVER_NAME.$PHP_SELF

you should take a at http://www.php.net/manual/nl/language.variables.predefined.php :o)

Actually, $REQUEST_URI doesn't return the entire URL requested -- it returns the requested path. To quote the page you mentioned, $REQUEST_URI returns "the URI which was given in order to access this page; for instance, '/index.html'" as you can see, it doesn't include the "http://www.someserver.com" part.
