Help Me: Active Users

Hey, I need to know how to go about making it so when you come to my site it will say "You are 1 of $number users", where $number is how many active users there are. If anyone knows how to go about this, please reply. Thanks!

Well i'm assuming you have your user authentication working. So when they log in and they are taken to the new page you just have to display the user id variable.
Say in your database you have three fields: Member Id number, Member Name, Member E-mail. As how to get total number of Members that you have you could use this function:
this will return the number of rows in your datbase table which in essence is the number of active users.
$num = mysql_num_rows();

Oh, no, I mean, when you come to my webpage you are considered "active" for 10 minutes, after 10 minutes, if you don't go to any other pages, your considered inactive. then it displays "You are 1 of $number active users" sorta like a recent visitor thing.

I think you can do this by using the session variable. You start a session Id for each user that logs in and store that variable in a different table say session. And then do a query on that table to get the results you want.
