MySql Sort by Date ???

I have a Table on my Database called Information and a colum with the same name.

I written
'order by date DESC' in my MySql query, and everthing worked fine till i tried to add Data in The Information Colum. I used the Date 01.09.2001 and the Ordering went wrong. It just saw the 01.xx.xxxx and did not see the month and ordered just by the 2 first chars in the string. (so the newest Informations were at the bottom of the page and not as i wanted at the top).

Could someone help me, so that the Ordering works correct , so that my newest Informations are displaied in a correct order?

make sure your date colum is of the the type 'date' which defaults to the format YYYY-MM-DD
