PHP Tools - what should I use?

I'm beginning a project and wonder what tools might give me better code and a shorter dev cycle.

1. What php development tools do you find most useful?

2. What template tools are the most productive and stable? I have found phplib, smarty, and fasttemplate. Of these, smarty seems to get good reviews but it uses PEAR and I don't believe this is generally available from a hosting provider for a shared environment.

3. What are the best tools related to working with database schema, testing , and form generation for MySQL? Again, I see that phplib as well as phpDBformCreator, DAL, and MySQLDataViewer.

well for your question number 3 i think the best i found was phpmyadmin, pretty easy to use. you will find it at phpwizard.net .

To answer your first question (Dark-Angel having answered the third quite well), the development tool I find most useful is TextPad (www.textpad.com).
