url, varible, and folders trouble

Is there any way I can use a prefix to a url to pertain to a folder, working exactly like a domain alias.

for exm, if I want bobjoe.somehere.com, I want to use bobjoe as a variable on the website to foward to a folder or an address. Is there any way I can do that without using domain aliases, my hosting company charges me 29 bucks for each one

if you used www.somedomain.com?root=bobjoe then you could set up your script to redirect to a path in the header();
