MAC Adress

Is there a way for me to write a script that picks up the MAC Address of a machine with a certain IP?

The way I do it is through SNMP. I don't believe there is any way of doing it through standard network calls, since the only MAC address your server knows for hosts outside of its own subnet is the MAC address for its own gateway.

I've asked this before and was told it was impossible with PHP for various reasons that I can't fully remember.

If you want to view the posts from around the 8/9/10th of July you'd find it, but I haven't got the time on a 56k modem 🙂

Its annoying, maybe PHP5 will contain it because I know I'd find it useful, you can always grab as many details as you can and try to match them up if your trying to use it to block / identify duplicate members or something similar.

even i wanted to do this to block users already logged on with the same id/IP, but cudnt get anything on this. maybe php5 has something on it!

don't count on any server side scripting language to provide remote client MAC addresses in the near future.
