How to Change Web page thru browser

I had a friend who was able to change his web page online thru his browser using php. He would go to a certain admin page, then he entered a name and password and the page he wanted to edit would pop up in an editing fashion. What is the script called or what is the way it was done called? I would ask my friend but he is no longer around my work.

I actually use a script like that on my own admin page. Basically all you do is use php to open any file you want to on your site, display it all in a text area field, then after you make changes, save the new content back to the file. I warn you though, never try to edit the page you are currently on.. 🙂 Its doesnt turn out pretty.
