MySql (UPDATE)

I want to update a friends password, his name is on my db John. I tried following but as you will notice there is nowhere set that the query should change johns password.

$sql = "UPDATE Members Set Password = $newpass WHERE Passwort = $oldpass";

How should the query be ? (the name of the table is friends the field where my friends names are in is called Name and the password field is called Password)

Your query should be:

$sql = "UPDATE Members Set Password = $newpass WHERE name = \"$name\"";

if you use the query below then it will change all passwords with the oldpassword to the new one.

I don't think this question is in the right place here but:

seems u know about MySql (and PHP) could you tell me a good book about that subject ? i would really apreciate this, because i want to learn using php eoth MySql databases.

I can tell you two really good books.
the first is

PHP fast and easy web development written by julie c meloni. From prima tech.

The second is

PHP Visual quickstart guide from peachpit press.

You can find both on amazon they are both really good books well explained and cheap.

I'm not really clued up on the beggining books, but I swear by the O'Reilly books,

I currently have "MySQL & mSQL" costs about £25, well worth if for a starter and reference.

I also have Microsft SQL Server (Microsft Press), believe me stay well clear from this one.

I also have the PHP books by O'Reilly.

And I can't remember who's it's by and my mates borrowed it but it's called "PHP Cook Book".

Just search Amazon and read the customer reviews, they will tell you if it caters for you.
