Beep (again)

I posed a question a couple of days ago and did'nt get any answers
so I'm posing it again;-)
Does anyone know a simple way to achive a short beep in the internal speaker
when a page is hit, using PHP and Apache on Linux?

I don't know if it'll work, but did you try the escape char \a ?

I've tried system("echo -e ´\a´) and exec("echo -e ´\a´) if that's what you mean.
It works from the prompt but not from inside Apache. I even tried an external
program. Same result.

I think your problem might be the server side parsing. the server might be merrily beeping away but the client computer wont. any external program run will run on the server. You might need to use javascript or imbed a sound effect into the html itself.

it will NOT ever work. realize - if you'll have apache web server, and php application it beeps everytime page loaded, what a feel... it's not possible to execute this kind of thing on 'remote' server.

you should only did local beep, in your browser using javascript - and Bell = ctrl-g

But i DO want a "server-side" beep (as a notification of a page beeing hit).
That's why I'm posing this question in a PHP-forum.

you want the server to beep when someone hits a page. That could be very anoying.

You could try using a cron job to check a file and every time some one hits a page you increase a number that is stored in the file. then the cron job runs a program that beeps for however many times indicated by the number in the file.

I dont think it would be very annoying this is a special case.
I don't get many hits anyway;-) But anyway thanks for your tip.
I had hoped there would be an easy way to do this without an
external application. But ..
