How to menage file uploads in directory

Hi,

I have made a db who is going to store amny records, each record could have up to ten pictures associated.

I am worried about the chance that the user uploads files with the same name corrupting the image for some records.

Actually I store the data into a mysql table while files are uploaded into a folder.

Do you have any suggestion about which kind of logic is better to store thes pictures ?

I am thinking about to create a new directory for each new record (using a piece of the name for exaple) and then store file name and path into the DB table...

You can't... when a user 'foo' uploads his second file, a second directory 'foo' will be created.. ofcourse.. impossible.
create a second table in your db first table has the following fields:
"UserID","UserName","Password"
UserID is an auto-increment field.
the second table contains:
"PictureID","User","Path"
PictureID here is the auto increment field.
Name the picture to the PictureID field. The first pcture will be 1.jpg, the second 2.jpg and so on. In User you'll put the UserID from the user who uploaded the file, and Path (ofcourse) contains the path to the image.

I like it very much, of course I have just finished to write code in the other way...

I have take the first five caracters for the product name and I create the directory.
If the directory alrady exist, no problem, it doesn't make the dir and it will only copy the file inside... each product could have up to 10 pictures, and the pictures are uploaded while you insert the products so I hope that the possibilites that the same file name and same directory name occures are very low...

If I get your solution before I will surely use, and I'll do in future, but it could have a problem in my opinion: suppose you have to create a drivers DB and tyou need to type and mantain the file name exactly like you type it...what you do ?
