Large include files

Can anyone tell me if there is any detriment to performance from having largeish include files in PHP scripts.

I have all my functions stored in include files that I include depending on each script's needs. The largest of these has now grown to 12000 lines/400KB, will including this slow the scripts down noticeably or is the effect neglibible?

Any opinions would be appreciated.

well, you can time the script from start to end by placing a microtime() at the beginning and at the end. i would suggest trying to trim down the code and perhaps break the file up into seperate libraries.

I wouldn't be including a 12000 line include file on every page if I didn't have to.

It would have an impact on the disk, however disk cache would help this.
definitely try to break it up.
