chacking variable value

how can i possibly check if a string passed to a variable contains any specific word?

like let's say a user fills a form called text with "please help me to learn how to read" string. then this is passed & held in a variable let's say $message.

now how can i check if $message contains the word "help" to display specific contant? Or check to see if $message contains one or more of several words? ex. if it contains the words "read" and "help" etc.

any help on this matter is highly appreciated. thank you all in advance.
