Regex Problem

Hi there,

I have this line of code...

$lastline2 = str_replace("2001\</span\>","2001\</span\>\<br /\>",$lastline2)

It is part of a script that reads the last line of a file and reformats it.

Could anyone tell me how I can change the '2001</span>' to accept any date starting with 2??? - ie so it works next year!!

I am new to PHP and regex's daunt me!!

Any help appreciated.

$lastline2 = ereg_replace("([0-9]{4})</span>","\1</span><br />",$lastline2);

I believe that will work, let me know if it does not 🙂

Forgot to mention that that will work for any 4 digit number (length of a year).... if you do want it to only work for year 2xxx, here is the line of code:

$lastline2 = ereg_replace("2([0-9]{3})</span>","2\1</span><br />",$lastline2);

Thank you very much for the code, it works just fine.

Funny thing is I can understand the logic now I have seen it!! I'd been thumbing through 'Core PHP Programming with no luck!! I do not think I'll ever get a true handle on Regex!!
