Sort By Date

Can anyone please copy and paste any codes to sort date from top(date nearest to today) and then bottom(date latest from today).. or can someone recommend a logic.The date in my database is of data type string.I am doing a warehouse management system that requires me to sort the customer orders by date.

Please help and thx in advance...

Select * from table
order by date asc
