Also need help w/sessions

I'm unable to figure out how to create a session so it is registered to a single browser.

ie: Select items put in the cart. cart creates a session to track what they select. a second browser of the same type can be opened and directed to the cart and have that list come up. I'd like to get the second one empty

That isn't a major problem, just something I'd like to get right.

Also, has anyone ever written an article on sessions without cookies (ie: db driven) and how to expire them vs renew them?

I use a db for sessions, but I use cookies too. How would you think that it is possible to have sessions without cookies? Just pass the var in the url ?

I pass the session id into a table in my db then place the product ids/quantities in it as well. That way nothing has to be sent to the user. I did this because I've got a lot of students who will be accessing the site who might not be able to accept cookies.
