PHP4 and phpChat working?!

Is there anyone who made phpChat (based on IRC) working on a Apache with PHP4?

I tried many things, but it doesnt work...

Could anyone of you give me some help and tell me where I can begin research about chat please? I now nothing about that yet and like to find explanation about how it runs and, why not also some simple code to begin tests...

Hi!

Yes... there are some different ways to build up a chat.

based on a textfile (where the posts are stored in, just like in a forum)
based on the irc-network
based on a database

I tryed the textfile-thing and some other stuff, but until now I got the phpchat working with a mysql-DB. But you shouldnt use it to extreme, because every chatter opens a streaming-connection to your server and the DB... taking about 2 or more MB of RAM..

I dont know where I found the solution with the mysql-db, but the file-solutions is here: http://www.phpchat.de/

Another irc-solution is to download here: http://www.phpwizard.net
But there is the problem I asked for...

If you find any solution: There are a lot of people waiting for a php-chat based on irc! ;-)
