browser reposting data on reload

Hi,
I have a form using the POST method to inset into data into a database. The problem occurs after the data is inserted into the database , if the user reloads this page it will re-submit the data. How do I prevent this duplication of data . I have tried setting sessions etc. but this does not work, I tested in Konquorer and this does not happen but with Netscape it does (have not ried IE). Any help would be appreciated.

You having a friday night beer/php session there? You appear to be an English speaker but there are some tell tale slips in there! (I do it all the time, saturday morning I cringe at my tardiness!)

The problem.

You could check your fields each time they're posted to make sure they're not the same? but that might be a little overkill. Stick with sessions but beware, I've found that post vars and session vars get confused which causes errors in your code flow. I tend to re-assign post vars when they're recieved if I really need them in sessions. Like;

$postedvar=$sess_postedvar;

and work with that one.

Can't be more specific of course but I hope that might help a little!

You could try using three scripts. One displays the form, second processes the form, and the third provides a message that the form has been processed. On the second script check $HTTP_REFERER = previous page before inserting data. Once the insert is done redirect using header("Location: ....") to the third script. Now refreshing the third script won't insert any data and hitting back and refreshing shouldn't insert any data. Just a thought, not sure if it will work...
