flush - problem

i have a problem using the flush()-function.

i have a script that parses logfiles.
when parsing is done, it calls another script that shows the results.
everything works fine but one thing: the parsing process can take up to 1 minute.
while parsing, i want the browser to show a little animated gif saying 'working...'.
To achieve this, i use the php4-function flush(), which should send the actual buffer to the client's browser.
unfortunately, this does not work.
can anyone help me ??
im working on a lamp via ftp using my Apple iMac with MSIE5.

A problem I had encountered was that my dedicated server, we had this Apache gzip module turned on which requires all output, then zipping before it's sent to the browser. If you have something similar that takes over output, you might want to disable that. I used a simple .htaccess file and turned of the module and flush() worked for me.
