sorting output to pages

There are many scripts that sort the DB output to several pages. How can I do that? (excuse my ignorence)
I have been told its done by putting ""ORDER BY" or "LIMIT" in the querry.

Could someone type me a short example script showing how to limit the output to say 5 a page, and on the next page show 5... etc?

$resultsPerPage=10;

$startrow=$page*$resultsPerPage;

$qry="SELECT blah FROM blahTable LIMIT $startrow,$resultsPerPage";

$result=mysql_query($qry);

...
...

How can I get what are the numbers of pages?

get the total number of results( at least i think this is the syntax) :

SELECT count(*) FROM aTable

Then divide that by the amount of results per page youve got. That'll be the total number of pages. easy-peasy

I tought of that, but how do i get around with having whole numbers?

53 / 5 ~ 10

the php number_format() will do it for you.

so will going :

$pages=(int)(53 / 5);

One more thing:

You mentioned before "SELECT count() FROM..."
So what does it return the value to?
Sould I do: "SELECT $i=count() FROM..."?
