readdir sort ?

I modified this snippet of code from the library it recusively displays the directories and files in it.

And I've read many posts on how to sort the information, but I can't seem to figure out its placement in this piece of code.

You can only sort once you know what you are sorting.
So you'll have to store the directory information in an array or something untill you have all the data, and then you can sort it.

I know I have to do some kind of array, I just can't figure out the placement of it. :-/ after each readdir would be a perfect spot but I must just be missing something cuz it never seems to work right for me.

The function is recursive, which means that it begins to read the first dir, and when it finds a directory in it, it starts a copy of itself to read that dir. That copy then contiues to run (while the original function waits) and if it finds more directories, it will start more copies of itself.

So a function only stops when it has printed the entire content of the directory and all subdirectories.

So you'll have to add the items to one 'huge' array, indicating the level of the directory like

$array[1][3][5] = 'bla';

so the fifth entry in the third entry of the first entry is 'bla';

I modified that code that was posted earlier so it will output to a file in this format

I then use PHP treemenu to make a nice little callapsable menu that is created on the fly, but on my php3 host its all outa order. do you have any ideas how i could code it for sorting? I know the logic behind it, I just can't seem to get the right combination.

I could use the same var. that creates the dots use that like, sort all items with 2 dots.. or 3 dots and so forth. I've tried a few things and I think I just need a little push. I've been looking at the same code over and over and I obviously can't see what i'm missing.

The dots are added with a little for loop, for ($a=0;$a < $level;$a++) $var = ".".$var;

so far it hadn't been this bad to create, just this sorting is kicking my butt.

the link above is a working demo, besides the spacing issue cuz the names of the folders are huge it works fairly well. Stil gotta figure out somethings on the layout of the site .. 🙂 im not pleased with it.
