CGI versus ISAPI

I wrote a simple script as follow and get difference responses under CGI and ISAPI configuration for PHP in Windows 2000/IIS5.

Under the ISAPI setting, the statements are printed at a rate of 1/sec; however, under the CGI configuration, all outputs are printed at once, i.e. after about 10 secs.

The ISAPI response is what I wanted, but I cannot replicate it using CGI configuration. Any idea?

The script's ouput is being buffered by IIS in CGI mode versus your script's output passing through IIS unbuffered when running in ISAPI mode.

CGI output is only sent to the client browser when the script completes (thus the 10 second delay before all the output). That is why things like 'server-push' animations aren't supported (and don't work) under IIS. Microsoft says this is a feature, not a bug.

First of all, thanks for all the responses.

I have tried the commands that Mike Hall has suggested. It didn't get me what I wanted, but do lead to more 'mysteries'.

Using IE, it still gives 10 outputs at one shot. Surprisingly, when I press F5 to refresh, it display 1 output/sec. But accessing the page via URL gives the initial response.

Using Netscape or other browsers like Opera, the response is consistant, i.e. 1 output/sec.

Is there anything that I can set in IE browser? It seems that the problem doesn't concern only with IIS.
