cron

hi all,
I use a cobalt server to publish my site and i didnt have an access to the webmin and some directories like(etc/cron.daily).

anyway, what i want to do is, to run birthday.php everyday at 01.00 am. This will send an congratulation message, but i did not know how to run this file, everday.

I dont know if I completely understand wether you have the abilility to rewrite the crontab or not but if you can rewrite this then just make a little listing in there (if its not in there already)

00 1 * root test -e /usr/sbin/anacron || run-parts --report /etc/cron.daily

Then you would have to stick a script in there that either calls the php script or the php script itself. However PHP must be installed as a CGI module I think to do this. That is it must be able to run from the command line.

I hope that helps... there might be another good slick way to do this but this is the easiest. 🙂
If you dont have access to cron... then you probably cant do this. Or you would have to write some messy program that opens up that page at 1am every morning.
