Doing a query

I want to do query that compares 2 tables,
news and users. I want it to find who posted from news and compare it to the users table. Then I want it to output the users that were not found in the news table.

a user can post a news.... and you want to find those users who haven't posted one - am i right ?

This could be done with a simple Join query.

Try something like:

SELECT tablenews.usercolumn FROM tablenews, tableusers WHERE tableusers.usercolumn = tablenews.usercolumn AND tablenews.someothercolumn != ''

wow.. um yea.. not sure whay you just said here.. sorry not to good yet with this stuff.

news is the table news is in.
users is where the users are at

it keeps who posted in the news and obviously if they did not post, they will not show up. That is why I need to query both.

To see who didnt put news in, try:

SELECT user_id FROM users
EXCEPT
SELECT user_id FROM news;

I "think" that's what you are trying to do.

Will that type of query run under MySQL? I don't think so (but not certain).

Dunno, I use Postgres and assume everyone else does too 😉
