Custom Header

I have a Document folder on my win 2k ( IIS 5 ) web server contain Word
and Excel documents that are opened with a web browser our stander is IE 5.5
sp2. I found an article on tech net a while back telling what to set in a
custom header to force the Open / Download box to pop up when ever a doc no
matter the Mime type in this folder is accessed but I can't find it now.
Does anyone know what this header should consist of ?

looks like IE doesn't work with
header("Content-Disposition: attachment; ...

So... I'm using

header('Content-Type: application/download');
header('Content-Disposition: inline; filename="'.$file_name.'"');

If you want file downloaded (without the option to open it), Content-type: application/octet-stream is enough.

Didn't know that. If I want download, I use octet-stream. If I want opening, I use proper type. In that case, downloads can be handled by right-click and "Save Link as". :-)

I konw a lot of users who have no idea about right-click'->Save Link as' :-)

Did you try "Remove" link under "Reply To This Message" box (next to second checkbox)?
