php code for mysql backup/restore

I have a php web based application (no telnet) that uses a mysql database to store the data. I'd like to give the user a backup/restore facility that is as easy as clicking a button to backup and one to restore. phpMyAdmin is nice, but I wouldn't want to let unqualified users loose with that.

I've looked at the backup/restore code in phpMyAdmin and it's scary. Is there an easier way.

Read the mysql manual about mysqldump.

Oh, and doing that sort of thing through a web interface is NOT a good idea.

The end user does not have any direct access to the server so cannot use mysqldump. I need something like a simplified version of phpMyAdmin that is very enduser friendly. I just need an idea of the essential elements of such code. Executing the routine will of course be password controlled.

You'll have to use mysqldump anyway.
use exec() or some sort to run it.

and again I say: don't do this through a web interface.
