That would be true of most of the "third party" FTP servers you can get, but it's definitely not true for the Microsoft IIS FTP server that comes with Win2K Server Edition. To make accounts for new FTP users, I actually make a new Windows login for the user - then when they log in to the FTP server, they actually run as that user. I wasn't sure I liked that at first, but it is a pretty cool system. For one thing I can see who uploaded any file by looking at its owner, but more imporatantly I can set up directory permissions such as "owner delete", etc. This setup will allow uploaders to delete & rename files - regardless of where they are located - but they cannot delete files uploaded by other users.
