newbie's problem with HTML parsing

Hi,

I want to take email variable from HTML form text field and put it into the database, formatting it into HTML in the process.
I am doing it like this right now. Anybody got a clue why this approach does not work or what might work?

$output = "<a href=\"mailto: ${email} \"></a>";

Just recomendation of my own thoughts:

I'd leave the email's "unformated", and add the mailto tags when needed later (outputting the info to a page for example). It makes it easier to use the database later when gathering information.

As I dont know your problem, more than its wrong, I have no answer... Try:

$output = '<a href="mailto:'.$email.'"></a>';
