When my system writes its info to the database, I want it to look at "date", if what is being updated has a newer date, I want it to write to "newdate".. The only thing, I need written in newdate is "1" or anything.. does not matter..just something has to be written to it.

This is so I can query it later.

OK, you you really aren;t asking us anything, just sorta telling us what you are doing. I got a question for you, if a record is being updated, wouldn't logic dictate that that action is CURRENTLY newer than an update that has not yet taken place?

🙂 yes allen... your logic is true.

What i am attempting, is to create somewhat of a template type item.

You see, if there is something in newdate, I can look for it and call something in the template.

That is why I need it to look to see if it is new day or not. If it is a new day, i want it to put anything in newdate... If it is the same day, then update as normal.

Ok, I think this is what you mean:

$sql = "update some_table set newdate = 1
where some_table.id = $some_id
and ((date < now()
and newdate is not null) or newdate
is null)";

This should update rows that were last updated yesterday, or have not yet been updated. Let me know.
