e-commerce and password

i have to assign a username and password once a visitor has paid a membership via credit card. i can set up the mysql calls to get the name and password into a database without any problem, but i need to know how i do the hand off from the ecomm page. in other words, once a visitor pays his membership fee, i'll send him to the page where he gets his username and password. i can't just send him to any static page because i need to make sure that he paid. my pseudo code is, "if visitor has paid fee w/ credit card, allow him to acquire a username and password." i haven't found any place that explains this critical step. i'm a newbie, but i can figure it out if given some direction. thanks

Have the page that says the credit card is successfull generate the username and password, or include the file that generates the username/pass in the CC# page.

steve - thanks for response. i haven't tried any ecommerce stuff yet. is the secure interface that the cc gateway company provides typically editable so that i can add my code? you make perfect sense, at the end of the transaction it should dynamically generate my pw and un registration page. is that how it works? thanks again.
