Date ranges

hi there, I am having some problems.
I am trying to compare two date ranges. If I have a valid from date in a record in a database and also a valid to date in the same record. Then I've got a display date from and a display date to that I want to pull back any records whose dates fall in that range.
This might make it a bit clearer.
Valid from ------ Valid to
Display from ------ Display to
Don't think it did really!
I was thinking about using unix time so I have 4 dates.
Can anyone help?

While there are many ways to tackle this, one of the easiest ways (in my opinion) would be as you hinted, to use the Unix Epoch time which gives you a single comparable number for each of those dates.

You could then do a standard numerical test on the dates.
