replace ip-address within a string

Hallo,

I need to replace any IP-Address which is located in a string along with lots of other text information. For example any IP-Address should be replaced with ...

I know I'll need to use the preg_replace function, but since I'm a beginner I don't really know how to handle it properly.

Can someone please help me?

What does the whole string look like? The one that contains the IP address?

In other words, is it something like this:

id=32&ip=1.2.3.4&name=harry

or something different, like this:

stringip1.2.3.4name

the string looks like this:

bla bla bla bla bla

ftp://192.168.0.1/incoming/...

or there\\'s a standalone ip:

IP: 192.168.0.1

I'm still confused on what the string looks like that you are getting.

Can you put up an actual example?

Also, the two strings that you show here, does the second actually come in as:

'IP: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx'

Or is that 'IP:' just there for the purpose of us knowing what it is?
