passing get ref_id to links on page

Hello experts!!

If I give someone that sells my software a link http://www.totalpconline.com/phprocketaddin/?page=main.html&ref_id=1
and they post this on their site.

How do I then pass ref=id=1 to all pages in my site? Which is better session or make a cookie? I need to have this info so that I may know which site that individual came from. I have a hidden form field on the order page that will then pass that ID into a data base. I've gotten that done already.

Any Ideas?

Session or cookies - usually it's the same stuff. If you have compiled PHP with --enable-trans-sid option, sessions are better. If not, you can hardcode id in all links on your site (quite a job to do) or just use cookies. Check the manual under "Function Reference/Session handling functions".
