how to make links with query

Hi. Thanks in advance for your help!

I need to make a link that results in a page with only certain records. This is what I have so far:
<a href="../mainlist2.php3?orderby=subject">2001 Session Progress</a><br>

But I don't want it to order by subject, I want it to find only artilces related to thd 2001 session. I'm thinking I use something like this:

SELECT * from $news where (subject=2001session)

But I don't know where I put it.

the page that it will link to, mainlist2.php3 will connect to the db.

The link is on a menu bar which when clicked will produce a new page.

It dont happen to be the LIKE in sql youre searching for?

"select * from news where text like %text%

%text = ending with text...
text% = starting with it...
%text% = has it...
%t%e%x%t% = you get the picture...

so if useing a "page.php?search=keyword" as link, you can use $search as %'.$like.'% in the sql statement.
