Please Help!!!

I have a freshly installed version of red hat 7.1, and my php doesnt seem to be working. i installed all the packages, so i know its there, but when i go to the default apache dir (/var/www/html) and create a file info.php with <? phpinfo(); ?> in it, all it, and view it at http://localhost/info.php, all it shows is the text written inside the file (<? phpinfo(); ?>) instead of the php info page. why is this and how can i fix it. this damn red hat version is a sack of bull @!#$.

Before you blame the OS, check to ensure your httpd.conf file (I assume you are using Apache) has the follwoing:

LoadModule php4_module libexec/libphp4.so

and
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php

the httpd.conf file is by default uncommented at that line, so im not sure why it wont work. thats why i blame red hat. they came out with this release with everything on it, but nothing seems to work fresh off the install. its usually got some sort of permissions or install issue that could have been taken care of from the beginning.

if you have another idea i would love to hear it. im need it running and im at a loss.
