Apache+PHP+MySQL?

I have installed Apache server, PHP and MySQL.
I made the configuration for PHP on Apache. Works great.
Which settings I must do in httpd.conf in Apache (or other changes), to could work with MySQL on Apache, and to could use the MySQL functions from PHP?

There are no further changes to be made in httpd.conf (or any other config file for that matter) to enable MySQL support in PHP. As of version 4, MySQL support is part of the PHP language core. As long as MySQL is config'ed and running, you can connect via PHP. Good luck!!

As long as you built PHP with the 'mysql' option, all of the functions for MySQL will be there.

Assuming you have added the proper lines in httpd.conf to handle the php files you should be in business.

Are you getting some type of error?

Somebody please help me. I've trying to develop a database. I want a new table with it's own fields for every new project that surfaces over time. I've gotten PHP to connect to my MySQL database. I can perform queries with no problem. My issue is:

I can find no source code that implements:

$sql = "CREATE TABLE '$table_name'('a_unique_field_name'FIELDTYPE(length))";

I don't get a syntax error at execution but I do manually check the MySQL database I have, and the table never gets created. How do I invoke $sql in the above statement to actually create the table. I want to start first with just manually having PHP create a table.....and once I figure how to code the statement, replace the table name with a variable ('$project') for every new project that comes into being.

If you guys could help me out, I'd be forever appreciated. I'm running around in circles, and the boss want's to know what the deal is. I'm so frustrated because of time restraints.

You can do this the same way you do any other query.

HOWEVER....

The user that the script connects as MUST have permission to create a table.

Do this:

mysql_select_db("YOURDB");

$query = "create table testing(";
$query .= "id int unsigned not null";
$query .= "name varchar(20) not null)";

if(@($query, $link))

print("the query worked.");
}

}
?>

See if that works.

If it doesn't create the table you want, then the user you are connecting as does not have the privs to create a table.

You can sub in the root name and password to test it. It will work.

Umm.... not to be picky, but the --with-mysql configure option is assumed by default. You don't need to specify it to build with MySQL support. The rest of your post is quite correct though.

You know...it's funny how when people attempt to give a helping hand to others someone like you has to come up with this 'not to be picky...' crap.

It never hurts to make sure that someone understands what is going on throughout the process. The more info he/she has the easier it is to figure out what is not working.

Thanks for your input. I created a new user and password and granted all priviliges manually in the MySQL database. I can still manually create the table in MySQL under the new user and password, however, when I convert the code to PHP, I don't get a syntax error. It just doesn't invoke the command to create a new table. I know my SQL code is correct, and I implemented your code mechanism (under 'root' as well), and I still see the result displayed on the browser page: "The query did not work."

Now:

It's not a connection problem, because I can read tables that I've manually inputted.

It's not a privilige problem because I can manually create the tables in the database, itself under the same user and password.

Could there possibly be a PHP configuration problem?

I agree with you that the more info a person has the easier it is to debug a problem, add features, etc... and I certainly wasn't trying to detract from the help you've been good enough to offer Calin. If there were more people in the world which helped out as regularly as the people on this board, the world would be a much better place.

However, you also need to be careful when you're giving help to give accurate info. In this case, it doesn't matter to much becuase MySQL support is default whether you use the --with-mysql option or not, but it's still giving false information that doesn't go any further towards solving the problem. Let's assume Calin didn't compile using --with-mysql. After reading your post, he goes through the full build process again using --with-mysql (which if he's compiling PHP as a static Apache process could take some time). Now, he's still back where he started and perhaps more frustrated.

All I'm saying is that you're willing to donate your time helping others, please make sure that the info you share with them is accurate to the best of your knowledge. If I'm unsure about an answer I'm going to post, I look it up in the manual just to make sure and I think it's a good practise that we all should follow.
