mail() -> mailinglist

Hi!

I have to make a mailinglist script. The script has to be able to handle lots of email... somewhere near the 70.000. The problem is if I use the mail() function for this purpose my browser comes with a timeout after some time cause sending 70.0000 mails takes long! I don't want to be dependend on my browser. I just want the server to take care of the mail without me having to stay connected with the script.
Does anyone knows how I can solve this? I guess I have to stop using mail() and use something else like a direct interaction with the sendmail program. But I don't know how good it will be able to deal with such enormous amounts of mail! I hope somebody can help me with this!

sendmail is most likely gonna throw up when having to handle that sort of amounts of email, you're probably better off using qmail instead (qmail.org)

Why is Qmail so much better in this occation? I guess I just use a shell script or something or a lynx -dump http://url.
