How to read forms or input via emails?

Hello,

Maybe I am not searching the right words but can't find ANY information on this.

I'd like to build a script that will read incoming emails, and do multiple things from that incoming email.

For example, I may want to read in a REPLY and post it into a database, or based upon a "Tracking Code" in the subject, forward that email on to someone else it was assigned too.

If someone can provide me a pointer in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

Is this on some kind of unix system? Sendmail (and perhaps its replacements, too) provide for delivery to a process, i.e. by piping the mail to a command. Given the cgi/command line version of PHP, there's no reason you couldn't do something in a script launched that way.
