Sessions was just a guess, I still haven't written that chapter of the book ;-) Now, sometimes you click a link and the page fails to load. Frankly, I have no idea if the original $HTTP_REFERER value is kept or lost in that case. What if the computer crashes? Cookies can let the visitor resume from where they left off. Think of a supermarket, for example. You have 30 items in your cart, you don't want to lose them and have to select everything again. What if someone recommends a product to a friend and that friend makes a direct hit? Sure, you can sport a presentation page and an order page, but you must be ready to handle direct hits in the order page at any rate. Oh, well, I'm a newbie in PHP and a newbie in programming altogether, so pardon me if I am blurting out nonsense. If I had to make an online store, I would use a database behind a single-script-based site. That is what I felt like telling kiddie in the first place, that is what I meant with "a script that points to itself", but it sounded lame, so I suggested cookies. But if you say it can all be just that simple, maybe my idea was not so lame after all.
Nice chatting,
