Echo Ampersand and Number Sign

I am trying to echo data from a database into a web page. The data in the database contains &, #, and ' characters.

I have taken care of the quotes with the stripslashes() function. I cannot however get the & and # characters to display.

I think you'll have to use their corresponding HTML entities like & as your data is being outputted in HTML.

try to use the built-in function htmlentities(), which automatically converts any char in the string given which has an html-entity-equivalent.

it's the most safe way to display your html-pages on browsers all over the world.

I tried to use both the htmlentities and htmlspecialchars without any luck. When I tried to pass the data through the query , the # sign would throw everything to disarray. I could not get the & to work either.
I did however find a workaround. I created a second variable for the data string and used ereg_replace to change the # and & characters up front to some string that would never be used (like jvxxw) and then changed them back after the pass. A little dirty, but programming isn't always spicnspan.
