Using radio buttons to update page

I'm trying to do a site that will allow the user to choose if they want to view data by Total US, State, or County. Based on which radio button is currently checked, I'd like to display combo boxes with states and counties. Is there any way to do this in the same program? My radio button is named area and I have tried accessing $area but it has no value in it. Any ideas? I've only been programming in PHP for a couple of weeks - I could easily do it in Java using listeners but can't seem to find anything similar in PHP.

i am sorry, i did not get your question exactly. but by your mentioning of listeners, i think you mean to update the page when the radio button is selected?

you will need to press a submit button inorder to submit the radio button data, or use javascript which will enable to submit the form on "select" of a radio button. every radio button needs to have some data in its value, which then you can process it using PHP.
