is there a way to transmit variables from page to page without using a form, or somehow faking it? i.e. the user clicks on a link and the variables are sent to a php script for processing.

www.somesite.com/help/download/ftp/windows/

the "help" directory, in this case, is not really a directory, but a php script. It's job is to parse through the $PATH_INFO environment variable and uses these as individual variables ....
