How to Substruct or Sum Dates?

i have many entries on a subject from my web-site visitors, i record a date for every entry.
like

Column_id | Column_entry | Column_date

1 | entry1 | 10-8-2001
2 | entry2 | 12-9-2001
3 | entry3 | 14-10-2001
4 | entry4 | 13-9-2001

i want to substruct today's date from
Column_date where id=1, how can i do this and i get the difference date?

(27-10-2001) - (10-8-2001)

if you help, i would be gratefull.

What kind of result do you expect to get when subtracting one date from another??

Result may return in days,
for example;

$date1= 2001-10-27
$date2= 2001-10-17

$result=$date1-$date2=10

i need a way to get the substruction result in days like 10 days i get

(in date1 and date2 order of day, month, year is not important: i can use which one you recommend in your sample script)

use MySQL's TO_DAYS function.
taht gives the date in 'days since the year 0'

You can subtract the outputs of the newest date from the oldest and get the number of days between them.

TO_DAYS(new_date) - TO_DAYS(old_date)
