field wont return right ino

I have a VARCHAR - 10 field that i use to input dates. i do it htis way because i want the date to come back in the mm-dd-yyyy format rather than the mysql format of yyyy-mm-dd (i couldn't figure out how to make it work otherwise. i had the field format as date, but it kept returning today's date rather than the date i put in.)

Anyway, in the VARCHAR-10 field i input, say, 05-01-2001, and IT STILL returns todays date!!! YIKES!! I have had to go in and change all the dates FOUR TIMES NOW!!! (i'm using phpMyAdmin on a slow connection with large files AND MAN IS IT FRUSTRATING!!!!)

I'd rather have it set up with the field as a DATE field that returns the date i put in it, and then have it translate to the mm-dd-yyy format when i print it to the screen, but i can't figure that out either.

ANY IDEAS!?!?!?!?!?!?

Hey Kathy,

Change the field in your database to a DATE field.

When you do the query on the table you can format the date in many diff. ways. You can use the query below to return it as mm/dd/yyyy

SELECT DATE_FORMAT(Field_name, '%m-%d-%y')
