what is wrong with this?

Does anyone know what is wrong with this code? I've come accross it before and cannot remember what I did.

$page = "s_dent"
$mydirectory = "/home/groupvertical/www/pelleleathers/images/$page/";

I get a parse error cause of the $page, but i cant remember what Im doing wrong
