for newbies, it's not quite clear

nobody can clearly say
"Yes, php by itself can do this" or
"no, it cannot"

I see million line classes, but they give errors on linux php 4.03 and pws windows 98

what basically says, dynamically, when a person goes to 'test.php' "Turn this specified directory to a .zip"

Wow, for days, I still can't find it. manual, everywhere. So is it not built in?

Not asking to learn apache or linux don't want to waste your time. Is there a way to do this? I am just so new to php, and can't find one real ex of what I am referring to. Access page

Should be possible using Zlib.

You can read files into strings, compress them and save them.

Now if you could build an associative array that contains the directory of the file and the data of the file, then serialize that array into a single string and compress it, you should be able to reverse the process.

haven't tried, but should be possible.
