Any suggestions for quickly learning PHP/My SQL for constructing database driven sites ? (Preferably something with worked examples/projects)

I can recommend a very good book that i purchased when first learning php/mysql:

MySQL/PHP database applications

it covers mysql, php and then walks you through making several database applications all included on a cd.

all have excellent tutorials and forums
forums are the best part i think.
