Building search engines using php/MySQL

Hi I have been looking around this site for beginners help with creating a php/MySQL Search Engine with little luck. I would think there would be a whole section under code snippets on search engines because most every dynamic site has the option to search through it.

Can any point me in the right direction? If you know of any books dedicated to the topic that would be good.
