Hello everyone!
I've been posting this question on boards for over a year now with no good solution to the question at hand... please help if you can. The problem is mailing to a lot of recipients with customized emails... they must be customized with specific remove links per user and customized mail bodys... ie. names... ... I can't simply CC or BCC recipients...
A few pre-requisites...
- PHP isn't a cgi ... that's not an option.. it's an Apache DSO
- I can't run mikehup.... ie.. shared server compatible.... no access to run a makefile.
- I can't use an SMTP connection ..this must be sendmail/qmail/postfix compatible with no smtp access .. ie... no sockets to smtp
- Directory writing isn't an option...
What I'm doing now is looping a send of X recipients at a time but this is very inefficient. VERY VERY inefficient with the http processes carrying as much as 35-45% of server load at a time... and at times bumping my load averages on the server from .2 upwards of 1.5 or 1.6 which isn't good at all...
I know that PERL has a fork feature to send mail.. which it seems the PHP guys have been really slacking on adding... but does anyone have any suggestions at all?
The info is stored in a mysql database so I'm not running into issues with huge textfiles.... php4 is in use .....
I have added ignore_user_abort and set_time_limit(0) ....
Is the true answer to this just the fact that PHP is REALLY getting killed by Perl in the emailing arena?
If you want more info just ask....
Thanks
Gary
