Authentification causes error

Why do I always get an "internal server error" when i run this:

i just tested it (with apache-server) and it works. could mean the server you're using doesn't support authentication.

I'm using apache 1.3.20 for windows and even the example from the php-manual doesn't work

Have you looked at the server logs to see if you can get more info?

I have a feeling that the PHP program itself cannot be run.

Create a PHP program which prints "hello world" in the same directory as the authentication script. If that works, then there is nothing wrong with PHP.

There is no problem with PHP, I think, because all other files work perfecly and when I remove the authentification part from the affected file, it works, too.

What can be responsible for this?

Okay.... have you checked the server logs for any error messages?

One problem might be that Apache is not letting the PHP present the Authentication. Is there any line in the server config which does not allow auth (i.e., is mod_auth present, does any directory option disable it?)

The server log says: "[Mon Nov 26 17:21:42 2001] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] malformed header from script. Bad header=HTTP/1.0 401 Unauthorized: c:/programme/php405/php.exe"

I could not find the "mod_auth present" in my httpd.conf, but I found the lines:
mod_auth_anon.so
mod_auth_dbm.so

But no matter whether I commtent them or not the file won't work.
